Latch Hook Kit

What type of canvas is better for latch hooking?

I'm making my own rug for my room. So far, I've only ever completed a kit, but I didn't like any of the designs so I used a picture I had and converted it through leftsource.com. Now I'm just wondering if a 5 mesh is better or any different then normal?

1. The mesh size just determines the density of the pile per square inch, if you are using very heavy yarn you will need a more "open" mesh, and obviously if you are using a fine yarn, you will want a tighter mesh, for plush look
